Job Title: Water/Sewer Technician IMusts: Graduation from high school or GED.Must possess a valid Driver'sLicense. Must be willing to work shift schedules, on-call and 24 hourstandby. Must pass pre-employment drug test.Skills: Listening and able to take direction.Duties: Perform a variety of entry level skilled duties related to themaintenance of water/wastewater collection systems. Works under the generalsupervision of the Water/Sewer Division Crew Leader: OperatesJet/Rodding truck; opens clogged sewer lines using various pipe cleaningequipment; maintenance and repairs; taps mains for service of lateralconnections, repairs leaks in water/sewer system; assists with ConfinedSpace Entry in compliance with established safety standards, conducts dailymanhole surveys to check for damaged lids and rings; inspects water/sewerlines to detect leaks or malfunctions; operates a variety of hand and powertools and equipment as needed to maintain and repair lines, manholes,etc.; replaces or resets grade rings as needed to bring manholes up to roadgrade; may perform as a safety flagman during highway operations. Travelscity system routes to monitor line condition; observes system flow, takesflow meter readings and removes debris and obstructions to prevent lineback-ups and property damage. Observes connection operations to ensurecompliance with established methods and procedures; may issue stop-workorders based upon compliance; monitors collection line system to preventillegal or unauthorized connections, tampering or dumping and initiatescorrective action according to established policies and procedures. Monitorswork performed by contract line installation, maintenance and repaircompanies; assists contractors to identify and locate lines. Performsgeneral routine maintenance on water/sewer maintenance equipment; performsequipment cleaning and greasing. Performs live taps on water lines; performsmeter installation and services; tracks water use of share holders. Assistsin routine checks of pumps, water lines; participates in generalprojects, operates heavy equipment used in installing and maintaininglines; maintains pumps, automatic valves; helps maintain maintenancerecords of all equipment, lines and systems; ensures adequate watersupply. Operates a variety of hand tools and small power equipment such asjacktapping machine; heavy equipment such as backhoe, front-end loader, andtrucks. Responds to emergency call twenty-four hours a day; determinesnecessary personnel and materials needed to solve the problem. Assists withvarious public works projects as needed, i.e., street maintenance, watersystem operations, etc.Start Date: Upon hireWage: $13.85 per hourShift: Monday-Friday 8 am - 4 pm; position will be on-call duty and 24hour standbyJob Site/Work environment: Incumbent generally performs tasks that requirea variety of physical activities that may involve muscular strain, such aswalking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, bending and lifting.Daily tasks require talking, hearing and seeing. Common eye, hand,finger dexterity exist. Mental application utilizes memory for details,verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking andcreative problem solving.
