Supporting the Most Exciting and Meaningful Missions in the World Boiler Tender/PipefitterJob DescriptionDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe primary purpose of this position is to tend to one or more boilers toproduce high-temperature water for the USAF Academy project site. Incumbent isto perform various boiler tender functions such as, but not limited to:Fire boilers, observe and interpret readings on gauges, meters, andcharts which register various aspects of boiler operation. Adjusts controls toensure safe and efficient boiler operation to meet demands forhigh-temperature water.Maintain log in which various aspects of boiler operation are recordedClean, oil, make minor repairs or assist in repairs to boiler room equipment.Following prescribed methods, treat boiler water with chemicals and analyzeboiler water for such things as acidity, causticity, and alkalinity.Install and maintain low- and high-pressure pipe lines and equipment utilizedin distribution of high temperature hot water. Maintain and repair of hotwater boilers, and steam boilers. Determine location of heating units,pumps, steam hot water tanks, pipe fabrications, etc., as specified bywritten or verbal instructions, sketches and/or blue prints. Install lowand high pressure assembles and bolts heating unit into place. Performmaintenance of hot water and steam boilers. Replace damage and/or worn outcomponents as required by using hand tools or power tools and equipment.Observe boiler and auxiliary units to detect malfunctions and make repairs,such as changing burners and tightening pipes and fittings. Modify andmaintain pipe systems and related machines and equipment required for the safeand efficient distribution of hot water/steam by cutting, welding,threading, aOperate a centrally-controlled, computerized (EMCS) Energy ManagementControl System utilizing Siemens software. Monitor, troubleshoot and adjustHVAC parameters in order to support HVAC craftsmen in adjusting HVAC systemsduring working and non-working hours. Provide information to MaintenanceWorkers - HVAC/Electrical, Mechanics, and Technicians utilizing alarmlog and cold/hot calls from Production Control. Coordinates maintenanceactivities by ensuring that proper supervisors, skilled tradesmen and/ortechnicians are contacted regarding maintenance needs. After power failuresoccur, incumbent monitors and assures that equipment is restarted topreclude excessive demand on HVAC systems failures causing downtime andrelated maintenance time denoting changes in building temperature.Respond to after-hour service calls as the Service Call Dispatcher for theUSAF Academy utilities and various base-wide facilities such as roads,water, gas, electrical power outages, Fire Department and the SecurityForces Department. Service Dispatcher determines whether a service call meetsthe Emergency criteria and directs the activities of the On-Call craftsmen toperform the appropriate function.
