PUEBLO WEST METROPOLITIAN DISTRICT Utility Technician Trainee in Pueblo West, Colorado

Position: Utility Technician TraineeDuties: Under the supervision of the Collection and DistributionSupervisor, assists in the operation and maintenance of the collection anddistribution systems.Work involves tests, installs, repairs, and replacement of fire hydrantsand water valves. Reads, repairs and replaces meters asrequired. Duties include performing general collection and distributionmaintenance, equipment maintenance and repair.Employee follows instructions closely referring deviations in the work toothers. Work is closely controlled due to the nature of theequipment that must be operated in accordance with prescribed procedures.Locates collection and distribution lines.Performs repair and/or replacement of damaged water mains or waterlines.Performs repair and/or replacement of damaged water and wastewaterinfrastructure in accordance with S. O. P.Operates equipment related to the department.Be advocates promoting health and safety in the workplace.This position is considered a "safety-sensitive" position and will besubject to monthly random drug and alcohol screeningMust provide own safety footwear.Physical Demands: Frequently requires heavy lifting, reaching,stooping, bending, crawling, crouching, climbing and walking overrough or uneven terrain.Unusual Demands: Worker is required to provide assistance duringemergencies; may be required to work unusual hours, weekends, andholidays; subject to recurring deadlines; subject to work hazards andunpleasant conditions; occasional exposure to inclement weather.Requirements:High School Diploma or G.E.D.One year of related experience in collection and/or distribution,construction field, and heavy equipment operation.Must have and maintain a valid Colorado class "R" driver's license.Must have and maintain a valid Colorado Class "A" CDL with an "N"(Tank Vehicles) or "X" (Tanker and Hazardous Materials)endorsement, or the ability to obtain a Colorado Class "A" CDL withinthe ninety (90) days from date of hire or provisional period (must beable to take driving portion of CDL within 30 days of obtaining permit).License can have no restrictions that would prohibit the operation of DistrictMust obtain and maintain a State Certification for class "1" Collectionand a class "1" Distribution. The Technician will be expected to advancein certifications including, "2's", "3's" and "4's" inCollection and Distribution throughout employment.The higher the certification achieved the more operational responsibility willbe given to the employee.Other Requirements:Basic computer skills to include the ability to use email, Microsoft Word,Excel.Skill in using tools, equipment and materials of the trade.Ability to communicate with the public, to speak and write clearly,maintain effective working relationships with others, and operate equipmentin a safe manner.Preferred Skills: Thorough knowledge of current principles and practicesapplicable to assigned areas of responsibility; local, state andfederal laws and regulations related to assigned functionsWage: $16.96 - $21.20 Hourly, nonexemptShift: May be required to work unusual hours, weekends, and holidaysJob Site Pueblo West, CO 81007Benefits: Paid Time Off (PTO) includes Vacation and Sick Leave, healthinsurance, holidaysApplications Instructions: If you meet the minimum requirements for thisposition, please click on How to Apply to view application information.
