Job SpecificationsAn Apprentice Relay Technician shall have an ambition to become a journeymanrelay technician. The apprentice will complete the necessary hands-on, workstudies, on the job training required to test out and graduate from theapprenticeship training program provided by the company.SALARY RANGE: Determined by current Collective Bargaining AgreementREPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Relay and Controls SupervisorLOCATION: Pueblo, ColoradoTo learn more about our locations, please visit the on our career website.Must live within 60 minutes of reporting location.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Work will be performed under the supervision of a Journeyman Relay Technicianin the field.Must pass all apprenticeship lessons according to the JAC apprenticeshipstandards.Must pass the examination as required by the JAC Apprentice CommitteeCapable of being trained in programming, testing and maintenance ofprotective relays and remote terminal units in an electric utility substationenvironment which includes but is not limited to:Protective relay job functions:Perform testing, calibration, and maintenance of all installed protectiverelay equipment, including electromechanical, solid state andmicroprocessor systems.Formulate automated relay tests and troubleshoot the testing process.Adhere to standards and guidelines set forth by FERC, NERC and any otherregulatory agency of the North American standards.Test all equipment in accordance with the BHC Protection Systems MaintenanceProgram to satisfy NERC and FERC requirements.SCADA RTU job functions:Install and maintain substation SCADA Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) equipment.Perform troubleshooting duties on substation SCADA Remote Terminal Unit(RTU) equipment.Maintain Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) substationcommunication processors installations.Create RTU and communication processor configuration files and supportdocumentation.Common job functions:Install firmware upgrades in relays, RTUs, and communication equipment.Maintain RTU Battery Maintenance program.Installation, maintenance and testing of substation metering.Wiring of substation instrument transformers, relays, panels and breakers.Setting and testing of ATO controls and vacuum interrupter relay controls.Testing various power-line carrier communications systems.Testing of instrument transformers.Setting and testing recloser controls.Setting and checking for proper levels of voltage regulation of LTC's andregulators.Knowledge and compliance to safety policies, procedures and standardsestablished by the Company and regulatory agencies.Attend safety meetings and other employee training as assigned.Support Continuous Improvement efforts that directly impact the Relay andControls group.Support safety initiatives.ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Substation equipment commissioning and acceptance testing.Work with engineering personnel during testing and troubleshooting.Maintain effective working relationship with direct supervisor and reportingmanager.Maintain effective working relationships with employees and customers.Includes but not limited to the following departments: Engineering,Construction, Line Operations, Metering, Communications, Generation,Reliability CenterWilling to stay over-night, out of town and be available to travel asprojects require.Willing to work over-time and extended periods of timeWork in storm restoration operation to rebuild and/or repair damaged powersystem.Requires the ability to learn and follow all Construction and OperatingStandards, Company Policies and Safety Practices.Must be able to complete OSHA and Joint Apprenticeship Committee requirementsas outlined.This position may include some travel.Willing to stay over-night out of town and be available to travel as projectsrequireRequire the ability to learn and follow all Company Policies and SafetyPractices.QUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma or equivalent required.Ability to obtain and hold a valid Colorado CDL Class "A" driver'slicense within 90 days of
