Job Title: Equipment OperatorDUTIES:1. Performs general maintenance (e.g. cutting weeds, fixing fences,sweeping) and general construction work related to Road and Bridge.2. Performs heavy manual labor with and without traditional hand tools (e.g.shovel, rake, wheel barrow).3. Tasks to include digging ditches and trenches, hoisting material,tools, equipment, and any related work with a backhoe, front-endloader, water truck and/or dump truck.4. Operates trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling andunloading of various equipment, materials and supplies.5. Operates trucks and construction or power equipment, such as mechanizedbroom, backhoe, dump truck, snowplow, road grader, front-endloader, excavators, water trucks, and skid steers.6. Operates jackhammers, mowers, brush chippers and other small equipmentand tools to maintain County roads and bridges.7. Plows snow and salts roads according to departmental policy.8. Performs flagging and traffic control duties.Assists with grade setting andchecking.9. Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assignedequipment; cleans equipment.10. Maintains and submits various departmental report forms relating tohours, duties and use/maintenance of vehicles.11. Perform after hours work as necessary due to emergency or calloutconditions when called or assigned.12. Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and securitystandards.13. May assist in the maintenance of various signs which are posted throughoutthe County.14. May receive training in a wide variety of areas relating to the Road andBridge Department as deemed necessary by Crew Leader or Supervisor.15.Regular and predictable attendance is required.SKILLS REQUIRED:1. Demonstrated proficiency in the operation and maintenance of one or morepieces of heavy equipment in addition to small machinery such as mower,chainsaw, etc.2. Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to Road and Bridgeoperations.3. Knowledge of MUTCD guidelines.4. This position requires the employee to be part of an on-call rotationschedule. 5. An on-call employee is required to remain near a telephone,cell phone or pager and to respond to a call or page as soon as reasonablypracticable.6. The on-call employee is free to pursue personal pursuits while on-call,but is expected to be reasonably available and within 30 minutes of their worksite during the entire on-call period for the purpose of responding to anemergency.7. The employee must also be mentally and physically able to perform therequired work.OTHER REQUIREMENTS:1. A High School graduate or equivalent.2. Must possess and maintain a valid Class B CDL with tanker and air brakeendorsements.3. Ongoing drug screening performed according to CDL regulations.4. Employee is responsible for the acquisition and wearing of steel toedboots.5. Must complete the following NIMS training within one year of receiving thisposition: IS 700/100, IS 200.WAGE:Wage for this position ranges from $16.31 to $19.37, dependent on experience.SHIFTS:Shifts for this position are primarily daytime hours.
