Highlands Ranch Metro District Park Services Technician in Highlands Ranch, Colorado

GENERAL PURPOSE:Performs semi-skilled, skilled and administrative work in maintaining therestrooms, shelters and other assigned park facilities of the Metro DistrictsSUPERVISION RECEIVED:Works under the general supervision of the Park Services SupervisorSUPERVISION EXERCISED:May supervise seasonal employees as assigned.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Complies with established safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.Wears appropriate safety equipment at all times including protectiveheadwear, eye and ear protection, safety shoes, gloves, respirators,and breathing apparatus.Maintains a safe, clean environment in restrooms, shelters, skate parkand tennis courts.Assists in setting up and taking down equipment from various parks in supportof recreation programs, and community events.Ensures community cleanliness by removing litter, unauthorized signs anddebris from roadways and parkway landscape.Performs custodial work as required and assigned, including: cleaning andchanging light fixtures, sweep, vacuum , and mop floors, garbageremoval and relining of trash cans, cleaning and stocking restrooms,cleaning shelters and surrounding areas, etc. or other work as needed.Prepares park facilities for reservations and scheduled recreational programsMaintains current skills and knowledge in proper and safe techniques of parkmaintenance practices.Collects and disposes of solid waste from buildings and grounds, picks uplitter from premises..Assist with the testing of water quality on public fountains, communicateswith park users when fountains will be shut off due to a reservation or unsafecondition.Assists with education and enforcement of park rules such as dogs off leash,no motorized vehicles in the park and use of bicycles at Civic Green Park.Assists with the distribution of District's sign policy to appropriatecommunity groups or organizations. Tracks weekend sign removals.Schedules staff coverage for community events and special events in theDistrict's parks. Tracks hours worked, flexed and absorbed and overtime.Keeps written and electronic records of work completed.Provides supervision/management with a weekly report of park activities.Coordinates with Reservation Specialist regarding park and event schedules.PERIPHERAL DUTIES:May serve as a member of various employee committeesDESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education and Experience:(A) High School Diploma or GED required with two years progressiveexperience in park maintenance; or(B) Associates or Bachelors degree in a related field and one yearexperience; or(C) Any equivalent combination of education and experience.Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:(A) Ability to effectively meet and deal with the public; ability tocommunicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to handle stressfulsituations; ability to make decisions based on established policies andprocedu(B) Skill in the operation of listed tools and equipment.(C) Ability to work independently and to complete daily activitiesaccording to work schedule. Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and standfor long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor underadverse field conditions. Ability to communicate orally and in writing.Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely. Ability tounderstand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions. Ability toestablish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and theSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:(A) Must possess a valid Colorado State driver's license or have theability to obtain one prior to employment.(B) Must complete training course in First Aid/CPR, Blood BornePathogens, Confined Space, Customer Service, and Conflict Resolution.TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:High pressure washer, pruning tools, pickup truck with automatic/manualtransmission, and water truck.
