Responsibilities and duties of the Chemistry Operations Manager are wide ranging and dynamic according to the needs of the business. A general list of responsibilities and duties is presented below as guidelines but is not meant to be comprehensive or inclusive of all responsibilities that may arise in the course of managing operations.

  • Ensure that all design processes, manufacturing processes, operational procedures and quality control practices for each product are technically sound and that all finished goods are of the highest quality as a result

  • Supervise and train chemists and technicians performing analytical tests and calibrations of instruments; plan all manufacturing and analytical work required to maintain inventory of finished goods;

  • Ensure that the organization meets all accreditation and technical compliance requirements of all relevant ISO and national standards and that the organization’s quality policy and systems are well designed, well communicated and followed appropriately

  • Provide assistance and guidance and be involved with the optimization of manufacturing and quality control systems and procedures for current product offerings in cooperation with the Quality & Compliance Manager; includes decision making related to technical interpretation, method development, method modification, and method validation

  • Employ Lean tools to create efficiency, organization, reduce cost, and improve quality and train chemists and technicians in these practices in order to create a culture of continuous improvement

  • Provide assistance and guidance and be involved with the design, development, manufacturing, quality control and commercialization of new product offerings based on market demand

  • Provide guidance to carry out problem analysis/complaint investigations and resolve through effective corrective actions

  • Provide guidance to operations in order to help the team meet business objectives of quality, output and cost

  • Work closely with the Organic and Inorganic Technical Leads to identify and execute on priority projects, cross-training opportunities, system/process improvement opportunities and training/capability enhancement within the group

  • Understand end-user requirements within each of the major applied markets and geographies and help to shape and guide sales and marketing efforts worldwide through our network of international subsidiaries and distributors

  • Interact with end-users and accounts to resolve issues and maintain current knowledge of analytical challenges and requirements

  • Promote a culture of respect, forward thinking, teamwork and continuous improvement, by clearly communicating group and individual objectives, maintaining positive communication with all colleagues, and providing regular feedback and performance reviews related to progress

  • Work with Sales and Marketing teams to launch and promote new products to the scientific community

  • Provide support to Marketing on brochure, web, technical and seminar content

  • Travel as required (10- 15%) to meet program goals

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Desired

  • A minimum of bachelor's Degree is required in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or related field

  • 5-7 years of experience in an analytical chemistry environment

  • Previous experience managing a team is required

  • 2+ years experience in the design and manufacture of certified analytical reference materials

  • 2+ years experience with proficiency testing programs

  • Working knowledge of current analytical instrumentation

  • Strong ability to think “outside of the box” and apply skills to creatively overcome challenges

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, execute and manage multiple complex projects

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • A great attitude, a winning spirit, and the ability to garner the respect of colleagues as part of a successful team
