Overview

OVERVIEW

To supervise and coordinate the outgoing road, rail and barge activities of the shipping department, meeting quantity and quality of products within specifications and costs as set by the plant. According to shipping activity and development potential, contribute expertise to maintenance and process efforts in areas outside shipping.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.

  • Provide visible leadership in the area of shipping operations

  • Administration and maintaining up to date of all OSHA requirements (e.g. Noise mapping, hearing tests, HAZMAT regulations, MSDS review etc.)

  • Produce Monthly Plant Safety Report

  • Provide daily leadership, guidance and direction for 4-8 plant operators

  • Ensure all direct reports have the appropriate training to perform their jobs safely

  • Set and appraise performance objectives with direct reports

  • Determine weekly schedules for the shipping operators

  • Conduct daily morning meetings to determine loading / unloading schedule

  • Ensures daily management of BOLs (correctional log, manual BOLs log and updating in SAP), daily SAP / SSL audit (where applicable)

  • Monitor inventories of manufactured product

  • Attend weekly supply call meeting and flag short and medium-term inventory / market activity that influences production schedule

  • Monitor shipping KPIs: Truck/Railcar loading tonnage, barge loading rates and costs

  • Create purchase requisitions

  • Track scheduling of outbound barges with corporate logistics department

  • Track availability and scheduling of rail cars with corporate logistics department and railroad companies (if applicable)

  • Design and implement preventive maintenance routines (barge loading equipment, tanker loading system, tanker roadway, silo extraction)

  • With the Maintenance Supervisor, plan corrective maintenance in shipping operations

  • Coordinate third-party inspections / maintenance (weigh-scale calibration as applicable)

  • Ensure daily load-out sampling and storage (90 days)

  • Engagement in and awareness of product quality, implementing fast and secure product quarantining when required

  • Meet the shipping area budget, making sound business decisions based on customer focus, costs, safety, environment etc.

  • Participate in and shape the shipping area budget

  • According to shipping activity and development potential, contribute expertise to maintenance

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education: Bachelor’s/Undergraduate Degree.

Field of Study Preferred: Technical field is desired (Chemistry or other Physical Science, or EngineeringDegree)

Required Work Experience: Minimum 5 years related experience with demonstrated progression ofincreased responsibility, with at least 5 of those years in a supervisory role. Experience in a cement plant orother heavy industry is highly preferred.

Required Computer and Software Skills: SAP experience, Computer skills, including Excel, Word,Project, etc.

Travel Requirements: 5%

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee will frequently be required to walk on rocky, irregular surfaces that may be muddy and in reduced lighting conditions. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles, confined space, outside weather conditions, low lighting, artificial lighting, and explosives. The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, proximity to electrical equipment, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud.
