Wagner Equipment Co., the Caterpillar dealer for Colorado, New Mexico andfar west Texas, is seeking applications for a Field Service Mechanic.A Field Service Mechanic is responsible for equipment repairs and scheduledmaintenance in the field on rental and customer-owned machines. With minimalsupervision, the field service mechanic diagnoses customer breakdowns andperforms timely repairs. This position may be asked to perform duties at anyhour of the day or any day of the week. Flexibility and in-depth productknowledge are necessary for this position.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIESAdministrative:Understands the work order system and helps others learn to use this systemPrepares service reports accurately and on a timely basisDocuments the 4 C's (Complaint, Cause, Correction, Complication)on work ordersPromotes a professional image by ensuring a clean personal appearance andwell-kept, correctly maintained, company service vehicleOrganizational:Applies 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Sweep, Standardize and Sustain)principles following every job including the service vehicleInterpersonal:Works effectively with others in the shop and helps build a strong teamworkenvironment. Assisting with the mentoring of Level I and Level 2, mechanicscan help promote this desired work teamTechnical:Engages in required safety practices at all timesTroubleshoots and repairs equipment when the knowledge needed exceeds theskill level of other mechanicsRepairs equipment during all weather conditions, as neededReads and understands the manufacturers' Operation and Maintenance Manualper machine type and complies with its contentsEnsures all operating controls and functions are in compliance withManufacturers' specificationsInspects rental machines for customer damage and notifies the Shop Coordinatorregarding any specific damage foundDiagnoses system failures to determine root causeRemoves and reinstalls failed assemblies, components, and parts as neededDetermines reusability of parts in accordance with reusability guidelinesServices and maintains equipment sold by companyTests, measures, and adjusts machine systems and components withintolerances of manufacturer's specificationsAttends training as requestedKeeps up to date with developments in tooling, technologies, and systemsAssists customers w/technical questions (by phone or in person)Practices courteous and safe driving habits in all traffic and weatherconditions and complies with all traffic lawsSupervisory:Since this position has no supervisory responsibility the field servicemechanic is expected to assume a leadership role in making sound decisions asthey relate to safe practices, high standards of quality repairs,professional customer care, and profitability to the company.ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTSMinimum Education Required: High School Diploma or GEDGraduation from a technical school with emphasis on diesel engine preferredMinimum Experience Required: 5 years heavy equipment, engine or mechanicrepair experienceAdministrative / Clerical Experience - Intermediate LevelCustomer Service Experience - Advanced LevelTechnical or Mechanical - Advanced LevelCertificates, Licenses and Registrations Required: Valid driver's licenseRequired Skills and Competencies:Data EntryOrganizational SkillsTelephone SkillsCommunication SkillsSafety KnowledgeMath SkillsReading / Writing SkillsProduct KnowledgeReasoning SkillsUnderstanding of diagrams and schematics-Advanced levelDiagnostic Aptitude Intermediate level
