Brief Posting Description
Responsible for the safe and efficient maintenance and operation of substations.
Must have a satisfactory work record.
Must successfully complete the Transmission 'Technical Apprentice Qualification' Test with a 75% or better score.
Requires successful completion of Tri-State's Substation Apparatus Technician Apprentice Training Program.
Six (6) years of combined education and experience in electrical and electronic field. This would consist of:
(a) the equivalent of technical training received in an Associate Degree program in Mechanical or Industrial Electronical Technology with advance studies in industrial electrical and electromechanical controls and hydraulic, pneumatic devices, digital systems control logic;
(b) Four (4) years of practical experience and/or be able to demonstrate knowledge in maintenance of industrial electrical-electromechanical-hydraulic-pneumatic-electronic control equipment, which must include two years of electric power substation apparatus maintenance experience, involving testing and maintaining power transformers, power circuit breakers, including associated equipment and electrical insulation system testing and repair;
(c) Must be capable of satisfactorily interpreting electrical schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, and control logic, and have knowledge of the basic theory of operation of substation relays.
Must have and maintain, or be able to obtain within 6 months, a valid Colorado Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker and Hazardous Material endorsements, and no Air Brake restrictions.
Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining First Aid and CPR certification within 6 months of hire and have the ability to perform First Aid and CPR.
Must have a willingness to work in and around high voltages common to the electrical utility industry.
Must be willing to accept overnight travel up to 75% of working time.
Must reside within 60 minutes response time from reporting location.
Must be willing and able to work extra and irregular hours as the utility needs may require, and willing and able to work under unusual or special working conditions such as storms, extreme temperatures, winds, darkness, etc.
Must have sufficient knowledge and skill in the safe use of basic hand tools, power tools, electrical and electronic tools, and electronic test equipment.
Must be willing and able to climb steel structures and work at various heights.
Must be able to work in confined areas.
(Must be able to demonstrate the capability of performing all of the essential functions of the position.)

The Transmission Joint Review Board may grant credit towards the term of apprenticeship to new apprentices who demonstrate previous acquisition of skills or knowledge equivalent to that which would be received under the Standards of Apprenticeship. Step one will be awarded unless indicated otherwise by the Transmission Joint Review Board. In order to be awarded a higher step, documentation must be submitted to the Transmission Joint Review Board for their consideration within thirty days of the effective date.
