I. Purpose of Position
As a Service Technician, you will provide technical service, and training expertise to customers in the installation and maintenance of WestRock packaging machinery. This assistance includes machine audits, planned maintenance and other customer requested technical services. Provides independent support to the customer. Capable of information gathering and is able to bring the knowledge from the field back to Service Management, Engineering and Sales.
II. How you will impact Westrock
Provides installation and service of WestRock equipment in the field
Conducts exit interviews with customer prior to leaving facility
Manages on site installation, repair, and maintenance of WestRock machinery
Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, and electrical related problems in a safe, effective, and efficient manner both in person and over the phone/web
Train operators on the safe use and proper care of the WestRock equipment
Train maintenance personnel on the safe use and proper maintenance of the WestRock equipment
Ability to accurately define and explain repairs made, and proper maintenance procedures to plant and internal personnel
Ability and willingness to work varying hours as required to meet customers production schedule
Follow all customer policies and procedures while in their facilities
Ability to work with and effectively communicate with plant personnel at all levels
Ability to effectively comprehend directions being communicated by senior level technicians and other authorized personnel
Ability to legally travel both domestically and internationally up to 90%
Provides input/feedback for continuous improvements and changes
Complete FAT/PDI (acceptance testing) of machines as needed
Organization and lead of significant machinery events
Working knowledge of general functions and setup of multiple machinery platforms
Ability to troubleshoot, repair and assemble electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components safely and correctly with little to no supervision
Ability to interpret electrical and pneumatic schematics required to troubleshoot and repair WestRock equipment
Ability to interpret assembly drawings required for repair and accurate assembly of equipment
Ability to understand and communicate ladder logic as required to effectively repair and troubleshoot software related issues
III. Relationships
Reports to: Service Manager or authorized personnel
Maintains internal relationships with all fellow employees
Maintains relationship with customers and WestRock plant personnel
IV. What you need to succeed
Basic knowledge and understanding of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) procedures
Certifications, technical degrees, or military training are preferred, but not required
1 - 5 years of mechanical/electrical experience (can include education, military training or any certifications.)
Electrical and pneumatic trouble shooting with knowledge of basic electrical codes
Strong mechanical abilities and troubleshooting
Servo experience
Read electrical, pneumatic, ladder logic diagrams, and mechanical drawings
Electrical relay logic experience and practices
PLC knowledge or experience required, prefer Allen Bradley
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Moderate PC skills: i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, search and navigate the internet, Microsoft apps
Ability to author accurate and concise service and expense reports
Review and/or contribute to procedure and training documents
75% travel with nonstandard workweek hours including weekends, holidays, and night shifts
Passport is required
Willing to follow strict safety guidelines
