Essential Job Functions

$17.06 Hourly / Depends on Qualifications

Installs and maintains traffic signs and barricades. Assists with traffic signal installation, maintenance and repairs.

  • Installs and maintains traffic signs and barricades.

  • Removes existing sign posts and signage out of holes with cement attached.

  • Lifts and carries materials including perforated metal posts, barricades, wood posts, aluminum signs and bags of cement.

  • Meets with utility locators to determine underground utility locations prior to excavation for sign installations.

  • Assists in pavement marking, rumble strip installations and sign and barricade fabrications; stocks signs, aluminum blanks, preformed tape, wood posts and perforated posts and places in appropriate storage racks. Supports work zone traffic control including flagging.

  • Operates various types of vehicles, equipment and hand tools in performance of duties. Operates a two-man auger while squatting and lifting.

  • Carries tools, equipment and gas cans to and from sites and vehicles.

  • Lifts and loads bags of glass beads into hopper. Maintains all striping equipment. Maintains records of all work performed.

  • Creates and designs signs using sign making computer programs.

  • Scheduled for on-call after hours to respond to emergencies such as flood repair, tornado clean-up, snow removal and any other natural disaster or safety need for the motoring vehicle.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education required.

  • One (1) year experience with sign fabrication techniques and pavement markings applications procedures preferred.

  • Knowledge of traffic sign installation equipment, procedures, standards and proper traffic control procedures as set forth in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices preferred.

  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with County staff and the general public.

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

  • Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, motor vehicle record check, drug screen, and physical examination.

Licenses/Certificates

  • Must possess and maintain Colorado Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement obtained prior to employment.

  • Colorado Flagger Certificate or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.

  • Certified Traffic Control Technician or the ability to obtain within one year of appointment.

  • IMSA I preferred.

Work Conditions

Work is performed outdoors and requires lifting, bending, climbing and at times, in hazardous situations (operating construction vehicles, adverse weather). Works with potentially dangerous equipment and tools. May work with hazardous materials (fuels, paints, asphalts, herbicides, pesticides). Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Subject to emergency off hours call-out. Subject to drug and alcohol testing.
