The Assistant Manager – Golf Equipment Maintenance, reports directly to the Director of Golf Course Maintenance and/or the Golf Course Superintendent with operational oversight of a comprehensive preventive maintenance program. The program includes all repair of failing equipment, record keeping of parts and labor, procurement of parts and supplies needed. The equipment manager properly communicates any needs or problems relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to the superintendent and/or assistant superintendent. Schedules work assignments of the assistant mechanic if applicable. The equipment manager places safety as a top priority and is responsible for maintaining an extremely clean/organized service area and maintenance facility.


  • Inspects, diagnosis and repairs mechanical defects/failures in various golf course maintenance equipment including but not limited to, diesel-, electric- and gasoline powered automobiles, trucks, tractors, mowers, utility vehicles and other mechanical equipment used in the daily project work.

  • Assists in the instruction and training of golf course maintenance personnel regarding preventive maintenance, and the proper cleaning of and safe operation of equipment.

  • Prioritizes equipment repair and maintenance work efficiently.

  • Sustains a preventive maintenance program within budget on all equipment, purchases, repair parts and replacement supplies.

  • Keep detailed records of equipment parts inventory, equipment conditions, costs of repairs and preventive maintenance on all equipment.

  • Spot-checks equipment daily for performance on the golf course. Makes emergency repairs to equipment on the golf course and services or supervises servicing of equipment prior to use.

  • Oversees the shop area maintenance, building upkeep and organization.

  • Regulates employees’ use of equipment in the absence of the superintendent and assistant superintendent if needed, and performs a multitude of other duties as directed by the superintendent.

  • Winter Plow responsibilities required on a rotating basis.


  • Working knowledge of light and heavy maintenance equipment and automotive apparatus.

  • Skill in the use of a variety of equipment repair tools and the fabrication of various types of mechanical repair (i.e. welding).

  • Working knowledge of the theory, care and operation of internal combustion engines, hydraulic systems and low voltage electrical systems found in turf maintenance equipment.

  • Expertise with equipment used in grinding of reel and bed-knifes. Strong understanding of grinding theory is necessary.

  • Ability to work well in a team culture.

  • Ability to move heavy objects in a safe manner.

  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions while performing job functions.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and keep precise/organized records.

  • Knowledge of and/or the ability to play the game of golf and understand how job performance affects the playing conditions of the golf course.

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.

The budgeted range starts at $45,000 - $55,250. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.
